Through the Grind, Hitting Their Stride

Lauryn Williams

The Olympic Trials are June 27th through July 6th. Bust out the popcorn. The best from between the sky scrapers of New York, from the open plains of Alabama, to the rolling asphalt of Massachusetts. They take with them the hopes of their cities, towns and homes and converge on Eugene, Oregon. From there it's a journey to represent the Red, White and Blue in beautiful Beijing, China.

I will start to care about the Olympics when we can go a Games without losing a medal to steroids.
Until then, I don't care if they run a 2:30 in the 40.

On a more serious note, China is trying to clean up the Beijing skies by reducing the amount of cars on the road by half. But cars aren't the problem- it's coal. And dust, and industrial pollution. So I think weather pollution will be a factor in '08.

That's definitely something to consider. What else will sports trainer's think of next to give athlete's that edge?

Beijing looks like a great city, it would be even better with clear skies. They probably go through massive amounts of coal for their transportation. Dust has some pulmonary effects I've heard. As a growing population, industrial pollution is a basic side-effect. Weather pollution could be a factor as well as weather patterns. The facilities they built are pretty enormous though. Have you seen the "Bird's Nest"? It might be climate controlled to a certain degree.
